Often called a “bee ag exemption,” agricultural valuation bases eligible land taxes on productivity. Approval comes from your appraisal district; buying RoBee alone does not qualify your property.
Does your land qualify?
5–20
Acres used for beekeeping
Texas law covers 5 to 20 acres used to keep bees for pollination or to produce human food or other commercial products. Confirm which acreage qualifies with your appraisal district.

Years of qualifying land use
Generally, the land needs agricultural or timber use in five of the preceding seven years. That history need not all be beekeeping. City properties have additional rules.
Local
Hive counts & active care
Agriculture must be the principal use at the intensity accepted locally. Colony counts, management practices, and supporting records depend on your appraisal district.
Apply
District review & approval
Apply to your appraisal district, generally by April 30. Confirm deadlines, excluded homesite acreage, and continuing requirements. Purchasing RoBee alone does not qualify a property.
Understand estimates and potential tax liabilities
Actual savings depend on approved acreage, appraised values, tax rates, and other property factors. A calculator result is an estimate; it does not establish eligibility or guarantee a lower tax bill.
A change to non-agricultural use can trigger rollback taxes for the preceding three years that received the lower appraisal, subject to statutory exceptions. Ask your appraisal district about your property’s history and potential liability before changing its use.
